Perception and transformation play an important role in Alphons ter Avest's sculpture. For him it is about the attainment of clear transparent objects with a layered meaning. At the base of it are often everyday ordinary objects: cars, caravans, houses, donkeys, model kits, toys, etc. These icons of our time are starting point, but they are not samples. Alphons ter Avest models them again in order to catch them on their wondrous ambiguity. Technique and craft are important players in this – often location-based - work in which context and nature of the place also determine its meaning. The artist usually works with reproduction methods like casting techniques in metal and ceramics for which he makes templates and moulds. Due this method process and technique come together in his sculpture.
Alphons ter Avest 1960 (graduated ArtEZ Arnhem) realises sculpture and projects – whether or not in commission – in public space and exhibits internationally. His work is part of private, business and government collections.
